“Once upon a time… a king?” you might say.
No, children, not this time! Once upon a time, there was a simple piece of wood…”
The morning begins in Florence, retracing the places that marked important moments in the life of Carlo Lorenzini, better known by his pen name, Collodi. You will see the commemorative plaque on Via Taddea, where he was born, and just a short distance away admire a bronze statue of Pinocchio by sculptor Thomas Cecchi. This is a chance not only to discover the celebrated author, but also to get closer to the man behind the story, set within the spirit of his own time. A guided visit will then take you to the monumental Cemetery of the Porte Sante, where Lorenzini now rests.
Next, aboard a comfortable minivan, you will journey to Collodi, the charming town where his mother was born and from which the writer chose his pseudonym. A short stop in front of Villa Il Bel Riposo recalls the many stays Carlo enjoyed there as a guest of his brother Paolo—days filled with inspiration drawn from the beauty of the surroundings and the people who would later influence the adventures of the little wooden boy.
Arriving in Collodi, you will be enchanted by the magnificent Gardens of Villa Garzoni, which Lorenzini himself helped to care for and see flourish. After a break for lunch, your guide will lead you on an exploration of the magical Pinocchio Park: passages from the novel will be brought to life as you wander the paths and meet the fairy-tale characters along the way—an unforgettable experience that blends storytelling, history, and imagination.
Children will step into the heart of the story—living it, breathing it, becoming part of it—while adults will rediscover one of the most cherished chapters of their own childhood.
