During this guided tour you will visit one of the most important opera houses in the world. The theatre was opened in 1778 and has been hosting leading opera, classical music and ballet artists for 244 years. It was designed by Giuseppe Piermarini and commissioned by Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. It stands on the ashes of the former Ducal Theatre, destroyed by fire, and takes its name from the church of Santa Maria alla Scala. In August 1943, the theatre was severely damaged by Allied bombing, but in May 1946 it reopened its doors to the public with a concert conducted by the great Arturo Toscanini.
Your guide will tell you numerous anecdotes related to the history of this famous theatre and during the visit you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in its magical neoclassical atmosphere.
