Your private tour will begin at the Medici Chapels, where members of the Medici family are buried. This building, which became a state museum in 1869, consists of the Chapels of the Princes, the Crypt, which houses the remains of the Medici Grand Dukes and their families, the Crypt of the Lorraine, where the members of the Lorraine family are buried and where you will also find the funerary monument to Cosimo the Elder, and the wonderful New Sacristy, designed and conceived by the great Michelangelo Buonarroti. The Medici Chapels are undoubtedly one of the most representative places of the power of the family linked to Florentine history.
Next, your guide will take you to the Basilica of San Lorenzo, located just behind the Medici Chapels. This basilica is one of the oldest in Florence and dates back to the 4th century. During the Medici period it was enlarged by the famous architect Filippo Brunelleschi and became the parish church of the Medici family. Cosimo the Elder, on the other hand, commissioned Donatello to decorate the Sacristy, known as the Old Sacristy.
